We are over the moon to have heard that we have been just been awarded a Great Taste star for two of our Raw Gorilla products, the Original with Tigernuts and the Cacao Crispies.
Our Strawberry Crispies ,also received really positive comments about the fusion of flavours.
About Great Taste
‘ Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’. Quite simply the Great Taste logo is the sign you can trust when buying food and drink in your local, quality retailer.’
A big thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, and of course to our customers who enjoy both our Raw Gorilla Crispies and Munchies.
This is what the judges said:
On Raw Gorilla Cacao crispies
‘Very good crisp almonds, well flavoured coconut, a little sweetness but not overpowering or cloying, in all clean flavours. A good choice of ingredients. This tastes of goodness.’
On Raw Gorilla Original Crispies
‘ A great texture to this product and judges love the firm grains and strong coconut flavour. The ratio of ingredients is bang on the money. Judges all want to know where they can buy this product and would be prepared to pay a premium for it.”
Although the Raw Gorilla Strawberry Crispies did not receive an award there were positive comments ‘ A nice wholesome idea, with an alluring appearance. The textures are good – crispy, crunchy and chewy from the fruit, giving a nice contrasting mouth feel.”
‘ Visually great mix. The product offers a great breakfast solution’
The competition was tough an varied. This is what Great Taste say about the awards.
How does the award system work?
In 2016 over 400 judges, including specially trained food writers inputting judges’ comments, came together at 49 judging days from March through to early July. This year the Great Taste judging roadshows took a turn in Tipperary, Ireland as guests of the Tipperary Food Producers and we also had a week in Belfast, supported by our friends at Invest NI. As ever we have judged at specialist test centres for tea, filter coffee and espresso with the remainder of the judging days at Guild HQ in Dorset. The judges, from all corners of the food world, blind-taste in teams of 3 or 4 ensuring we get a balance of expertise, age and gender.
Who judges and what are they searching for?
The judges are made up of top chefs and restaurateurs who know their onions. People who run delis and farm shops, top food hall and retail buyers, acclaimed cooks, food writers and journalists, jam and cake experts from the WI, cheese makers and farmers. This diverse mix of judges ensures that every product is judged fairly and that nothing can slip through the net.
